05.00 – Field Capture – Joshua Tree National Park, California

Two distinct desert ecosystems, the Mojave and the Colorado, come together in Joshua Tree National Park. A fascinating variety of plants and animals make their homes in a land sculpted by strong winds and occasional torrents of rain. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the wonder of this vast wilderness in southern California.

I have chosen Joshua Tree National Park as the subject matter for all of the tutorials covered on this website as well as an Oculus Quest VR app currently in the planning stages.

05.01 – Location Scouting

Once you have chosen your location, your first task is to do some location scouting. Begin with a Google Map exploration of the terrain and surrounding areas. Many times existing Google Street View panorama images exist which will allow you to completely plan your shoot before you set foot outside of your home.

Now that my location is chosen, a quick day-trip to the location will give you a feel of the direction and mood of your project and how best to plan for your eventual location capture.
